Cribbing
For all you bow hunters out there. If you want to kill a bear and want to put him in the right spot without having to wait all day for it then set yourself up a Crib this fall and get the shot over with when the bear comes in.
Here is how its done!!!
Before heading out to the location find yourself two old tires. Preferable 1-truck tire without a rim and 1-car tire that has a rim.
Take the top of a 55 gal drum and bolt it to the truck tire. Two bolts work fine. You may have to grind the top of one off or use a recipricating saw and cut it off. This will keep little critter out while the tire is laying on the ground.
Your ready for the woods.
Bears don't like to make a lot of noise while walking through the woods. So they will avoid branches, twigs while in the area of the bait. If you pile up the branches around the backside of the bait then the bears will walk striaght in on the angle you want them to so you have a shot oppurtunity.
15 yards behind this photo is where I hung my climber stand and shot a bear with my bow last year. The bear came in to the tire and presented a perfect shot angle for a bow using this method.
What you do when you get there is stuff the inside of the tire full of bread, buns and pastries with mollases on it. This will make the bears work for it.
After you do that throw the tire with a rim on top of it and then throw a heavy rock on it. It makes a dinner bell sound that the bears will get use to hearing and know whats going on. This will keep the critters out of it and a bear is the only creature that can get into the morsels.
You only have to do this once a week. Combine this with a roller barrel and its dynamite. The bears will feed on the Roller Bear-al all week and when you reset the baits top up your crib. Bait the day before you hunt and then when you enter the bait the day of the hunt pour some of your
SPLASH!
around the bait. This will peak the curiousity and bring them in early before sun down. Besure to send photos. We love to see them.
